On another day of our holiday in Tulum, we went on a cave diving tour in a cenote. What started as a last-minute replacement trip turned out to be one of the most remarkable experiences we’ve ever had.
We registered on a snorkeling tour in two different cenotes. The first one was an open cenote, resembling a mangrove river, with rumors of an alligator roaming through its waters. The second cenote, however, was a cave filled with bats and captivating rock formations hanging from the ceiling. While the first cenote was already impressive, diving in complete darkness with only a flashlight, surrounded by hundreds of bats and mysterious rock formations, was an entirely surreal experience. The water was pitch black, and the depth was impossible to gauge. We were so captivated by the sights around us that we only realized later how spine-chilling the darkness truly was.
We hope that our photos can capture the incredible sights we witnessed in this place. If you’re seeking exciting things to do in Tulum, cave diving in a cenote should be at the top of your must-do list.
