Things to do in London: Natural History Museum

As you may have already realized, we love museums. Besides the British Museum, another must-visit in London is the Natural History Museum. The museum is divided into color-coded areas, each with its own unique exhibits.

In the green area, you’ll be immediately captivated by the 20+ meter skeleton of a blue whale hanging from the ceiling. You can also marvel at the cross section of a giant Sequoia and explore the fascinating exhibitions of extinct animals like the Dodo and Giant Sloth.

If you have even the slightest interest in dinosaurs, don’t miss the blue sector. Here, you’ll encounter a life-sized robotic T-Rex and a wide variety of dinosaur species. You can also discover exhibits featuring big cats, squids, and other marine animals.

The red zone focuses on geology. As you descend via escalators, you’ll metaphorically journey into the Earth’s core. This section explains the formation of different types of volcanoes and offers a thrilling experience of a live earthquake in a special room. A personal highlight for me was the stunning display of minerals and gemstones, ranging from massive rocks to tiny diamonds.

Lastly, in the orange sector, you’ll find the Darwin Centre. This interactive area allows you to engage with scientists who are preparing exhibitions and conducting research to inspire students for a scientific career.

Feel free to share your experiences and thoughts about the Natural History Museum in the comments below. If you’re planning a trip to London, make sure to include this incredible museum on your itinerary!
