Back in 2018, I set off on an unforgettable summer in Ocean City, Maryland. While my journey wasn’t an official “exchange,” it turned out to be one of the most incredible experiences. I had planned to travel to Germany as an au pair but made a stop in the USA to visit my family in Washington. As luck would have it, they had a summer house in Ocean City, and we decided to spend a week there. Little did I know, I would encounter a wave of European students on exchange programs.
These students were part of the “Work and Travel” program, which I believe is a fantastic opportunity to travel and immerse oneself in different cultures. If I could go back in time and relive my student years, I would seize this chance without hesitation!
Although I couldn’t work due to my tourist visa, I frequented the bars where the exchange students hung out, simply to make new friends and soak in the vibrant atmosphere.
Here’s my recommendation: If you ever get the chance to participate in an exchange program in the USA, go for it! Especially during the summer and in a coastal destination with beautiful beaches.
